Boo Hoo

No, it is not Halloween, but I am sad to say that I am leaving (riding off into the sunset). Now don't all emo on me! Personal reasons (my kids need me at home) led me to this decision. I have had a blast here at the Howe; I have had a lot of fun with you young persons; I have thoroughly enjoyed working with all of you (y'all, as some say over here).
Let's have a little party this coming Wednesday (4th March) with pizza and stuff! Those who are here today - Monday - let's decide what you would like to do.
Peace,
Simon

Baking: cookery 101

This Wednesday we did cookery - baking - thanks to Caroline's wonderful suggestion. We had a full house and ran out of ingredients! We made cookies, muffins and some yummy chocolate things that melted in the mouth, filled with cream and covered in sauce - kind of like s'mores but much, much better. Here is a picture of what we made.
So for those who missed out, I am sorry! It was GREAT! We are SOOOOO full of choclate and good unhealthy stuff!
Peace,
Simon
PS - We didn't really, but it was fun thinking about it!

First to read and write wins a prize!
The first one of you lot who reads one of the new awarded books (see list on Children's Desk), that you HAVE NOT ALREADY READ, and writes a short peice about the book, will win a prize - to be determined by me! That's all. The only other rule is that it has to be checked out of the Howe Library!

Acquavella, and the Florence and lansing Porter Moore 1937 Fund. But what's this got to do with you? I hear you say! Okay all you artistic types and others, here’s something fun for you to do next Wednesday when you have the day off!
We (The Howe) have teamed up with the Hood once again to bring you a teen workshop: “Telling Stories with Portraits.”
This is aimed at middle school students and will feature a museum visit followed by an art project.
Picking out a character from one of your favourite books you will explore the Hood Museum of Art as to how artists tell us about someone through clues in their portraits. Afterward, in the studio at the Hood, you will get the chance to be a budding portraitist by creating a collage portrait of your chosen character.
When: February 18th (your ‘day off’ school)
Time: 1.00pm – 3pm
Where: Hood Museum of Art, Hanover, NH
Grades: 6-8
Register in the Children’s Room.
Have fun, my friends.

Parents of teens read this!
Many young people these days have a Facebook account or similar. It is a worry to some, a concern to others. There is a website that I subscribe to called Common Sense Media which has some great things on it. It's most recent article is about Social Networking Tips. It is directed at these concerns and worries that some parents might have. Check out the link:
